When my grandmother, Ethel Della Stair (nee Cade – 1884-1968) died, I found I was the recipient of an oak chest containing a huge amount of old letters from, and photographs of, various family members.  When my mother died, in 2004, I inherited all of my grandmother’s diaries – from 1914-1965 – minus two: 1924 and 1930, both of which have vanished without trace.  But what to do with them?

I started transcribing some of the letters as soon as I had my own computer; the diaries, I began as soon as I got them – they are now complete, and I aim to publish them in due course.

Recently, I also acquired a collection of letters sent to my great, great aunt, Adeline Maitland (Smith – 1870-1968) as well as her diaries – from 1903-1968.  Add to that, the result of research into our family history by a cousin, John Ashbrook Flower (1928-2011), and I felt all that information should be recorded somewhere.  Where better than the World Wide Web!!

This site, created by a friend – Kevin Powell – to whom I am greatly indebted, is the accumulated result of all that information.

I hope it is of interest to someone, not least those of my immediate – and extended – family!
